ACE Paragraph
The poem "To my Dear and Loving Husband" by Anne Bradstreet utilizes the repetition of love and a passionate tone to explain that a love between to people can posses the ability to transcend death. The repetition of love accentuates its irreplaceable value. For instance, Bradstreet compares love as more valuable than gold and more powerful than a river. Because love is an abstract concept, comparing to something concrete and prized like gold indicates the massive value it has through Bradstreet's eyes. Moreover, the passionate tone further conveys the reader with a sense of awe and appreciation for the gift of love. By tying together the passionate tone and repeating love, the reader is brought to the final line "that when we live no more we may live ever," showing that love can overcome the all-consuming force of death. Overcoming death also indicates that Bradstreet believes that she is part of the select few of the elect, adding another layer to the meaning of the poem. |

Ace Paragraph
The poem "In a Station of the Metro" by Ezra pound uses a haiku-like form and juxtaposition to demonstrate the beauty in what is mundane and temporary. Because the modern times are characterized by disillusionment and disjointedness, beauty has to be searched for in unlikely places, in an everyday location like a metro station. The presence of people in a metro is only temporary, thus making it precious. The briefness of the poem in the haiku-like form mimics the concept of a lack of time. Juxtaposing a crowd of people with nature accentuates their parallelism. Overall, the poem instill a sense of contemplation and appreciation.
